Ronald McDonald House Charities has been involved in various fundraising efforts to build and support programs that provide medical care to children facing diseases such as leukemia and cancer. One of the ways the nonprofit does this is through marathons, including the Chicago Marathon.

Over 37,000 runners were part of the 2015 Chicago marathon, including over 700 members of Ronald McDonald House Charities running to raise funds for the charity. In that year, the Ronald McDonald House Charities raised over $1.1 million through the race, with each runner bringing in an average of $1,400. Workers from Aramark Corp. took first place in the run, and were winners of the Big Red Shoe Award for raising over $98,000.
